Reason for Nomination: "Over the 3 years I've been the Health and Safety manager with GRT, I've seen Ben take on and develop the new Trainees.

He undertakes this with passion and commitment to their learning ability's, understanding that each person learns at a different pace. Each Trainee he has trained has progressed into becoming a good scaffolder. He teaches them the basics and will not let them progress until they have fully understood and mastered each item. 

He will not allow them to cut corners or work in an unsafe manor. The industry as a whole needs to develop more young persons and Ben is a good role model leading to young operatives staying in the scaffolding industry."

Reason for Nomination: "Despite the challenges of starting a new business during the COVID-19 lockdown while also being a new father, Pete has displayed remarkable resilience and determination. Working tirelessly for more than 14 hours a day, seven days a week, he ensures his customers receive exceptional service. Pete's passion lies in improving the reputation of the scaffolding industry, recognising its importance in construction. He educates his customers about scaffolding, rectifying misconceptions and emphasising its significance. Pete actively engages with the community by sponsoring local football teams, showcasing the industry's role in infrastructure development. He also extends his generosity to charity projects, collaborating to equip local village halls with scaffolding and other resources for improved energy efficiency and cost reduction. Given Pete's exceptional contributions, he is wholeheartedly recommended for the Scaff Star award, as his hard work, commitment to excellence, and dedication to both his business and community make him an inspiring figure in the industry."

Reason for Nomination: "Calvin has built up a highly successful scaffolding firm in Norfolk over the past 5-6 years - now employing over 65 people. 
He supplies many of the large house builders locally and is looking to go on and grow his business further, he is a driven individual passionate about the trade.

He works on commercial, new builds and other projects such as heritage buildings and churches.

He has worked tirelessly to build a scaffolding company to be proud of across the region."

Name: Sophie Bull

Job Title: Operations Manager

Company: No1 Scaffolding Solutions Limited


Reason for Nomination: "Sophie should be crowned a ScaffStar because she has taken charge as a strong female in the scaffolding industry to grow the company. She regularly works to encourage students graduating from college to train with the company, giving them a chance at a career for life. Sophie has given a new face to the scaffolding industry and shown that women can be in the workplace and respected equally, bringing a new change to the way the construction industry works."

Name: Daniel Jackson

Job Title: Director

Company: C.O.G Scaffolding Services Limited


Reason for Nomination: "Daniel has committed his life to the scaffolding world - working across Yorkshire, he is built a sound reputation for his reliability & speed, whilst also being highly health & safety conscious & compliant. Last year, he set up C.O.G Scaffolding Services Ltd and in its first year has just grown from strength to strength. Over the years, he has witnessed the skill level and work ethic of young scaffolders joining the industry demonise somewhat and therefore one of his objectives is to coach and develop young scaffolders coming through the ranks, to his standards and in turn offer them career progression through his business. He has also contributed his work free of charge to causes such as ‘Yorkshire Great Build’, the Church & local charity events. An all round great guy who has wants to ensure standards in scaffolding remain high and give where he can."

Name: Phil Evans

Reason for Nomination: "Phil has been teaching scaffolding for 27yrs .A CISRS instructor and still as passionate now at 76 yrs young still teaching and so knowledgable of the industry if there was someone who I feel should have recognition this man is your star and someone who I feel has certainly produced great men in their current roles he’ll probably hate that I’ve nominated him but tough."

Name: Dan McGregor

Job Title: Head of Operations

Company: Teal Scaffold Limited


Reason for Nomination: "Dan's experience is from a quality management, and R&M background. However, for the Sovini Group he launched a scaffold business focused on supporting RSLs within the local region. Although Dan did not have experience within the scaffold industry, he has built a business in less than 5 years that turns over more than £2m, he has promoted numerous members of staff through his desire to assist those in professional growth, heavily focused on continuous improvement and bringing social value both internal and external. Our company is now recognised heritage access experts within our region, and we have been awarded multiple heritage contracts including, Liverpool Lyceum, Midland Railway Building, and Liverpool Walker Art Gallery to name a few. Whilst building the business and developing efficiencies within the industry daily, Dan has also been completing an MBA in university, we are all more than confident that when Dan finishes this qualification, he will dedicate everything he has into turning Teal Scaffold into the best scaffolding contractor in the northwest. He is inspiring, and a pleasure to work for."

Name: Phil Coulton

Reason for Nomination: "Phil began in the scaffolding industry as a labourer and his determination, hard work and achievements seen him excel as a manager and expert within the PASMA industry across the Northwest over the past 14 years. He has been the go-to technical expert for problem solving and liaises with accredited scaffolding design personnel to ensure that all projects are completed with 100% compliance. His knowledge, attention to detail and determination to complete complex works sets him apart from most. His skillset seen Teal Scaffold erect internal access designed birdcages at Liverpool Lyceum around priceless artifacts when tube and fit could not be used due to the loads.

Phil has a comprehensive professional development plan and has set his sights as part of his professional development, to progress onto managing a tube and fit projects in the future."

Name: Ian Drysdale

Reason for Nomination: "Ian has been recruiting scaffolders for years and has been my go to man whenever I am looking for work.

He always delivers for me. I the time that I have known Ian he has always been honest and true to his word when offering jobs.

He bends over backwards to help and support you getting the right job for you and will help you find digs or look up transport.

Basically he will do everything he can to help."

Name: Gediminas Dauknys

Job Title: Contracts Supervisor

Company: Embassy Site Services


Reason for Nomination: "Ged has worked here at Embassy for over 4 years and has flourished in his roles as Project Manager and now Project Supervisor.  Ged is an excellent leader who cares greatly about his team. He displays fantastic communication and management skills with the whole team and prioritises a safety-first approach, resulting in accident-free sites, which should be commended.  Ged also maintains great relationships with clients and other key stakeholders.  The most recent display of his work was on our project in Hendon. Works got off to a tricky start, but once Ged came in and managed the project, Embassy have risen to the top of the health and safety contractors league table.  All his work is completed on budget and within the required timeframes. Geds hard work has proven that he can deliver projects as required, as well as maintain our high standards for health and safety on site!"
